Post Conference Tour - Inle Lake & Yangon

Tue 20          BAGAN - MANDALAY - INLE LAKE                              B/L/D

We depart Bagan for Mandalay & continue onto Inle Lake in the Shan State. Upon arrival we’ll transfer to a jetty where you’ll board a boat to start a day of sightseeing on the lake. This will include the famous leg-rowing fishermen, floating gardens & the villages on stilts. A stop will be made at Paung Daw Oo Pagoda, an important religious site in the Shan State. You’ll also visit the traditional Shan style monastery Nga Phe Chaung & an Intha village for tea & snacks. Onto our hotel for check-in & welcome dinner

  

Wed 21         INLE LAKE                                                                B/L

We’ll start the day with a wonderful boat ride on the lake & through canals, to visit Indein village, one of the small villages located on the western bank of the lake. You’ll see the amazing sight of hundreds of closely spaced stupas in various states of disrepair of Nyaung Oak monastery & pagoda. A walkway leads up to the ancient Shwe Indein pagoda site containing hundreds of pagodas, most from the 17th & 18th century. The walkway has a vast array of vendor’s stalls selling all types of local craft. Here you’ll see the Pao ethnic group who wear coloured turbans & traditional clothing. After lunch we’ll stop at a silversmith workshop to watch artisans craft lovely pieces of jewellery

Thu 22          INLE LAKE - YANGON                                                B/L

We take another boat ride on the lake to visit Ywama village to see the long necked ethnic women, the oldest tribe in Myanmar. They keep their unique customs including wearing many necklaces to have a longer neck. They consider that the longer neck they have, the more elegant they are. You can explore the ways of life of these ladies & the fascinating process of spinning & weaving their products such as scarves and tunics.  You’ll also see the impressive production of the famous parasols. After lunch, visit Red Mountain Estate Vineyards & Winery in the hills of Southern Shan state - one of only two vineyards in Myanmar - for a wine-tasting of locally grown wine. It’s a picturesque location in which to find out more about the Myanmar wine. Fly to Yangon late afternoon & transfer to our hotel

 

Fri 23            YANGON                                                                  B/L

Today we’ll explore the lively cultural capital of Myanmar. Our tour starts with the majestic 2,500 year old Shwedagon Pagoda which is Myanmar's most important Buddhist shrine. It’s a gilded stupa standing 326 feet high. The tour also explores downtown Yangon where the British colonial influence is still evident. You’ll see colonial style buildings, the Independence Monument as well as City Hall - a fine example of Myanmar architecture & included on the Yangon City Heritage List. After lunch we’ll stop for photos at Kandawgyi Park before visiting Botataung Pagoda, known for its hollow inside, which has a mirrored maze-like walkway lined with glass showcases containing many ancient relics & artifacts that were sealed inside the earlier pagoda. To finish the day, we’ll take a Yangon River cruise at sunset

 

SAT 24          YANGON                                                                  B/D

Today starts with a visit to Sule Pagoda located in the heart of the city & is important in Burmese politics, ideology & geography. There will be some free time at the famous Bogyoke Aung San Market, offering an excellent opportunity for souvenir shopping. You can stay longer at the market or the coach will return delegates to the hotel as the afternoon is free for you to explore Yangon on your own until our farewell dinner with a cultural show

Our time in Myanmar has come to an end. Transfer to Yangon Airport this morning for your flight home
