PRE CONFERENCE TOUR - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK, LAKE NAIVASHA & HELL'S GATE NATIONAL PARK

Arrival into Nairobi is 26 August

On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll enjoy a couple of nights here exploring the wide ecological diversity & varied habitats as well as game drives. The park is most famous for the colonies of flamingos living on the shores of Lake Nakuru & although it's a bird lover's hub (African Fish Eagles, slender-billed Greenbuls, long-tailed Widowbirds, Rufous-throated Wrynecks & many more), it's also a wild game destination & is a habitat to over 100 endangered Rhinos, both black & white & one of the best places to see Rhinos in Kenya. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake also situated in the Great Rift Valley & is famous for its high populations of hippos & flamingos. There are over 1,500 hippos in the area & the lake is a birder's paradise, home to over 400 bird species. You'll take a boatride on the lake & then take a guided walk on Crescent Island, a wildlife sanctuary where you can see zebras, giraffes & other animals in their natural habitat. While in the area, we'll also visit Hells Gate National Park, once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. We'll do a walk with spectacular scenic views, abundant flora & fauna, towering cliffs & water gouged gorges.

POST CONFERENCE TOUR - ZANZIBAR

Depart Zanzibar for Dar es Salaam & back to Australia 09 September

The island of Zanzibar is located in the Indian Ocean 24kms off the coast of Tanzania & is the perfect location to relax after our safari's, with the island surrounded by shining white sand beaches & palm trees swaying lazily in the sea breeze.

We'll spend 4 nights in a resort on the island & do some sightseeing. Stone Town is a World Heritage Site & full of culture & history with interesting streets & back alleys to walk through, famous & infamous historical sites, including the slave market, Sultans’ palaces, Beit el Ajaib (House of Wonders), Old Fort, artists’ studios & more. Feel the rhythm of life in the main marketplace, alive with the chatter of locals bargaining in Swahili & the vibrant palate of colours from the fabrics, tropical fruits, vegetables, spices & intricately carved wood. After our tour & free time for lunch, we'll take a short boat ride to Prison Island (Changu Island), where you’ll see giant Aldabra tortoises - some over 150 years old - and learn about the island’s past as a detention center. We'll also spend a morning cruising on a dhow boat with time for swimming & snorkelling, followed by a beach BBQ. There's time to relax at the resort to lay by the pool, swim & walk along the beach & sip a few cocktails!
